“I had it in my pocket all night and was dancing when I realized it was no longer there,” a Duquesne University student shares. Caci Krieger was excited for a fun night out with friends, but instead she spent most of the night searching for her phone.
After noticing the missing phone while at a frat party, Caci and her friends spent most of the night calling and texting the missing phone. Surprisingly, someone eventually answered – and said he wouldn’t give it back. The suspect teased the victim about meeting up to return the phone, but was not serious (and you should also never meet up with someone you suspect has stolen your phone or laptop – here’s why!)
Caci notes that she is going to arm herself with a more secure password than the 4-digit PIN next time and will install device tracking, as well as following mobile theft prevention best practices. Caci learned the hard way that a pocket is easy pickings for thieves. We can learn from her mistakes.
